Parent Information
Parents form a vital part of the school community.
Parents are encouraged to take an active interest in their child’s learning and school activities.
We particularly ask parents to be regular and diligent in listening to their children read and checking and signing that their homework has been completed.
There are three formal occasions during the school year when parents are invited to learn about the targets and ways in which they can help their child in expectations for the year and/or to look at their children’s work and discuss their progress with the teacher. Teachers and the Head are always happy to discuss any concerns at the end of the school day, or at other times by appointment.
We welcome parents into the school and into all classrooms to help to support the children with various activities. All regular voluntary helpers are subject to Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks, as are all of our staff.
Friends of Welton
As a parent of a child at the school, you are automatically a member of ‘The Friends of Welton’.
It is open to all who are interested in the school as part of the village community.
The organisation aims to promote good school and community relations and to arrange social as well as fund raising events. For many years parents, friends and teachers have given many hours of their time, not only in having fun with Christmas Fayres, discos, the School Ball, fashion shows and barbecues, but also in raising a considerable amount of money to provide the school with essential equipment. In recent years, ‘The Friends of Welton’ has raised a considerable amount of money for the redesigning and equipping of the playground area. ‘The Friends of Welton’ committee is elected each year at the AGM. You will be very welcome to come along to meetings which are held each term and also to support any events - it is your children who benefit!
Snow and Bad Weather Policy
Every winter brings the possibility of snow and ice. Extreme bad weather can cause widespread and prolonged disruption. Schools are often affected and it can be difficult to maintain an education service. As a fundamental principle every effort must be made to keep schools open, even if only limited numbers of pupils can attend. There is a legal requirement to keep schools open for children to attend for 190 days per year (380 sessions). However, schools may close due to ‘unavoidable’ circumstances. Those circumstances being that it is no longer safe for staff or pupils to be onsite. We recognise that it is important that our school remains open so parents are able to work and pupils can continue to learn. We will make every effort to prepare for severe snow/ice this winter. In the event of us having to close the school a message will be sent via MCAS and Class Dojo.
